Where are you getting your health guidance?

One of the things I love most about my job is researching. I love to look at different sides of diet and fitness ideas and to way-up what is working and make predictions on all the recorded information from each client. I also make an effort to present information and methods to my clients in written media for reference and understanding by way of newsletters and articles.

By improving your health, you are going on a journey of mental and physical awareness. This is the essence of long term wellbeing. You get to know your body more. Results enables you to focus on what is working for you; what is making you feel good/ positive/ energetic (not stimulated)/ healthy in mind & body/ have a better body composition & image. You feel good within and you no longer have to worry so much. It's a positive cycle.

If you are not getting results, assuming you still want results, then you are still seeking answers and may also be more likely to focus on finding things outside of the body to make you feel better: alcohol (not talking a small glass), drugs (recreational and/or prescription), gambling, comfort food, comfort (insert any addiction here)…..

In this state of lesser health you may not be aware of the effects the media is having on your choices. If you have managed to resist adverts for fizzy drinks, sugary food and booze well done you! You are well on your way to results and better health. It is not just the bombardment of ads that we need to be aware of though. Bad or mis-infomation seems to be written everywhere, it even occurs in the news; a media people tend to look on as more truthful. There are numerous occasions people or clients have said to me "I read this in the newspaper yesterday, so I am on the right path, no need to change", or "I read this and now I am panicking, I've not got long left to live!!". It sounds like drama because drama sells. Often the media presents only a fraction of the mentioned study, or glamourises it, or sensationalises it! Even the BBC has an article online here which quotes from an MP "The problem lies not with science reporters and health specialists, who do an excellent job, but with the culture that bad news sells and reassurances do not", while a reporter on investigation said "Sometimes we in the media may actually contribute to an increase, rather than a decrease, in health risks". I believe this to be a fact and unfortunately the way this business is run until we stop relying on media and start becoming self aware and taking responsibility. (Relying on GPs could be another point here and the scope of a whole new article)!

Truth is, any health study is always limited in application, because everybody is uniquely different, what works for some will not work for others, depending on starting point, biochemistry, and many other reasons.

You can open your mind by taking full responsibility for your health and therefore not just believe what the media is telling you or wanting you to believe but by finding the truth. The truth is in getting results. Results which stay. Results which uplift your whole world, not just one part of your health at the expense of another.

Who agrees and is on the journey??
